Jerry Tiefel Obituary

Brazil, Indiana

Jerry Tiefel, 83, passed away peacefully Monday, February 9, 2026 at his home in Brazil surrounded by his family. He was born on June 1, 1942 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Albert and Cleo (Gettle) Tiefel. Jerry graduated from Cory High School in 1960, and married Karen Oxby on June 8, 1963. He was a life long farmer, and worked for the AMAX Coal Company for almost 40 years. Jerry was a member of the North Union Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the Center Point Masonic Lodge.

Jerry loved farming, and working in his gardens. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed fishing, playing euchre with his buddies in Center Point, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Tiefel; brother, Tom Tiefel; and his sister, Mary Lewis.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Karen Tiefel; daughter, Melissa (Donnie) Morris; sister, June Lawson; brother-in-law, John (Connie) Oxby; grandchildren, Adrian (Ella) Tiefel, Harley (Heather) Miller, Haylee Miller, and Leslie (James) Jones; great-grandchildren, Harmonie, Addison, Aidan, Charlie, Bentley, Liberty, August, Andrew, and Kennedy; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 12:00 Noon, on March 7, 2026 at the North Union United Methodist Church, with a Masonic Service to be held at 12:30 P.M. the family will accept friends for visitation on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Moore Funeral Home in Brazil was entrusted with his cremation arrangements.
